But he’s heading to begin the period in Triple-A, for the reason that that effectiveness wasn’t excellent plenty of for Blue Jays common supervisor Ross Atkins.

Atkins explained of Guerrero, “I just don’t see him as a key-league player. He’s 19.”

This is, unfortunately, to be predicted from Atkins. The Blue Jays are incentivized to continue to keep Guerrero in the minors for a couple of months in order to gain an added calendar year of handle on him in the long term. In order to justify the go, team officers make up weak excuses like this for the reason that they cannot outright say they are deliberately manipulating a player’s assistance time.

This has been an ongoing difficulty in baseball the previous few seasons. The Chicago Cubs did it with Kris Bryant — who is not a lover of the practice. The Atlanta Braves did it with Ronald Acuña. The Blue Jays will do it with Guerrero.

They will do it with Guerrero irrespective of the simple fact that he’s certainly a person of the best 25 gamers in the firm and the consensus No. 1 over-all prospect in baseball.

Guerrero gained an 80 prospect quality according to Baseball The us, the best quality probable on the scouting scale. The publication suggests Guerrero “might immediately rank amongst the major over-all hitters in baseball.”

Guerrero will not split camp with the Blue Jays for the reason that the team has prioritized successful extra games in 2025 than ideal now. For about a few months, Blue Jays fans will have to look at their favored team realizing a person of its best gamers is not there.

A popular refrain when groups do this is that the gamers agreed to this in the collective bargaining arrangement. Slight-league gamers are not aspect of the union, meaning Guerrero is getting punished for a thing he cannot handle.

That argument also ignores that the gamers agreed to this deal in excellent religion that groups would not exploit the rule. Entrance places of work know what they are executing is exploitative, which is why a common supervisor can in no way say they are manipulating assistance time. That would give the gamers all the proof they have to have to file a thriving grievance.

Instead, common managers like Atkins say things like this hoping fans both will not treatment, or are as well foolish to realize what is in fact heading on.

The 2019 Blue Jays aren’t predicted to be a playoff team. FanGraphs jobs them to earn 77 games. Probably they’ll earn extra in 2025.
