UNDATED (AP) — The Minnesota Twins have hired Tampa Bay Rays assistant coach Rocco Baldelli as their new manager, seeking a young voice to help revive a struggling team. The 37-year-old Baldelli replaces Paul Molitor, who was fired after four seasons with a 305-343 record. Baldelli will be the youngest manager in the major leagues, the first skipper ever born in the 1980s.

TORONTO (AP) — The Toronto Blue Jays have hired Charlie Montoyo as their manager. He succeeds John Gibbons, who was let go after a 73-89 season. The team says Montoya has a three-year contract with a club option for 2022. Montoyo is a 53-year-old Puerto Rican who worked as the bench coach for the Tampa Bay Rays this season. Blue Jays general manager Ross Atkins calls Montoyo a “highly regarded leader” with “a superior ability to connect and relate.”

HOUSTON (AP) — The Houston Texans host the Miami Dolphins in the Thursday night NFL game. Both teams are 4-3. It will be a matchup of Houston’s quarterback of the future, Deshaun Watson, and former Houston quarterback Brock Osweiler (AHS’-wy-lur). Watson is healthy after dealing with lung and rib injuries. Osweiler will be making his third straight start in place of Miami starter Ryan Tannehill, who is out with a shoulder injury.

FLORHAM PARK, N.J. (AP) — New York Jets coach Todd Bowles says running back Bilal Powell is expected to make a full recovery after he has surgery to repair a bulging disk in his neck. Bowles clarified today that Powell’s injury, suffered last Sunday during a run against Minnesota, is similar to the one from which wide receiver Quincy Enunwa returned this season.
